So I am still trying to catch up the blog with time past. I wanted to be sure to get in a post about our first Pumpkin Party! The idea began last year when we wanted to do something fun during fall that wasn't Halloweenish. Halloween seems to get darker and scarier each year. We prefer to keep our kids away from that, yet we don't want to miss out on the joy, excitment and community that comes out around this time of year. Thanks to a suggestion by my mom, the pumpkin party was born. We invited friends and neighbors to come over, bring a pumpkin dish and a pumpkin to decorate. We supplied the paint and decorations, a pumpkin candy hunt, and a doughnut-on-a-string eating contest. The pumpkin dishes were given a number and secretly voted on for a prize. We had a wonderful turn out and a lot of fun! Kids and adults dressed up for fun, and kept busy with all the activities. The food was delicious. I made a pumpkin chile that, while at first got suspicious looks, ended up being completely consumed. The winning dish was an amazing pumpkin grahm cracker dessert.
